Victim of Crash Caused by Storm Identified: Police

Montgomery County Police say an elderly Poolesville man died Tuesday night when his pickup truck hit a tree in the road.

Montgomery County Police on Wednesday released the name of an elderly driver who died when his pickup truck apparently struck a tree felled in Tuesday’s storms.

The driver, who was the single occupant in the truck, was Elmer Henry Froelich Jr., 79, of the 19500 block of Jerusalem Church Road in Poolesville.

Investigators say Froelich’s 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup was eastbound on Darnestown Road about 8:30 p.m. when it struck a tree in the roadway in the area of Darnestown Road and Cattail Road.

Froelich was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday night.

Detectives continue to investigate the accident. Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to call 240-773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
