Two People Rescued From Floodwaters Near Poolesville

Two people were safely rescued from a car that became trapped in floodwaters near Poolesville over the holiday weekend, authorities said.

NORTH POTOMAC-DARNESTOWN, MD — Two people were rescued early Monday near Poolsville after their car became stranded in floodwaters, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service said.

MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said the car became disabled near the intersection of Hunting Quarter and River roads at about 3 a.m. The incident unfolded after the car was driven into standing water that was roughly 2 feet high.

Both car passengers were brought to safety after responding emergency crews conducted a shallow water crossing to reach the vehicle.

The driver and passenger had initially attempted to "self-rescue" before calling authorities, according to Piringer.

Piringer said both individuals were evaluated for cold exposure and possible hypothermia, as they had both been wet and cold when first responders arrived on the scene.
