ODENTON, MD — A blaze damaged three Odenton townhomes and hospitalized a 67-year-old woman early Thursday morning, county fire officials announced. A press release said the injured woman suffered critical, life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters said residents were displaced, but they did not mention how many. Nobody else was hurt.

Multiple 911 callers reported the fire in the 200 block of St. Michaels Circle around 2:26 a.m. Crews said they found a three-story end townhome burning with heavy flames.

Crews said they called for a second alarm, as the blaze caused extensive damage to the attached townhome and eventually reached a third unit. Heavy winds made it easier for the fire to spread.

A team of 80 firefighters said it controlled the flames in about 60 minutes.

The fire's cause and area of origin are still under investigation. The original home had smoke detectors that sounded properly, the release said.

County building inspectors will assess the townhome for extensive structural damage. The surrounding area is blocked off for safety.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department thanked these agencies for assisting its response:

  • Anne Arundel County Police Department
  • BWI Airport Fire & Rescue Department
  • Fort Meade Fire & Emergency Services
