$50,000 Odenton Powerball Winner Pays It Forward
An Odenton man who won $50K from Powerball said he plans to give some of it to Shriners Hospitals for Children and will buy a house.

ODENTON, MD — An Odenton resident who regularly plays Mega Millions and Powerball when the jackpots roll past the $300 million mark did just that earlier this month and a store clerk’s error helped him win $50,000, according to a news release from the Maryland Lottery. He plans to use the winnings for a children's charity and to buy a house.
On Aug. 9, the lucky player went to Weis Markets at 2294 Bluewater Boulevard in Odenton to purchase tickets. The Powerball jackpot for that night’s drawing had reached $307 million, while Mega Millions climbed to a $382 million jackpot for the Aug. 11 drawing.
“I only asked for one ticket each for one game of Mega Millions and Powerball,” said the lucky winner. “The cashier gave me two games on each ticket. I am grateful she did as the second game on my Powerball ticket was the winning one.”

The Odenton man was so excited about his win he made a 4:30 a.m. phone call to share his good news. The 27-year-old player and his wife plan to pay their win forward.
“We feel blessed to have won and we will pay it forward to Shriners Hospitals for Children, which is very near and dear to our hearts,” he said. “They have done amazing work and we are grateful for how they have touched our lives. We will also use some of our winnings to purchase our home in the near future.”
