International Airline Restoring Service To BWI As Travel Continues To Rebound

LINTHICUM, MD — Air Canada will restore its service to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport this month. This comes as global travel rebounds and Canada eases its pandemic restrictions.

Travelers can catch double-daily flights to Toronto starting May 15. Single-daily trips to Montreal begin June 1. Air Canada suspended these routes and others when COVID-19 struck in March 2020

Passenger traffic is continuing to improve at BWI. The airport saw 18.8 million passengers in 2021. That's a 68 percent increase from 2020.

"In 2022, passenger traffic is expected to further increase as more international and domestic routes are added," BWI spokesperson Jonathan Dean said in a press release announcing other airport news. "Several major capital projects are now underway that will support airline service and enhance the travel experience for airport customers."

The flights from BWI are two of the 41 North American routes that Air Canada is resuming. This means Air Canada will return to 90 percent of its pre-pandemic levels in North America by the end of the summer.

The airline is also adding these new routes between Canada and the United States:

• Montreal to Atlanta
• Montreal to Detroit
• Toronto to Salt Lake City
• Vancouver to Austin

Air Canada will similarly launch these domestic routes within its home nation:

• Montreal to Gander
• Calgary to Fort St John
• Vancouver to Halifax

The airline announced all these updates in a Feb. 22 press release.

"We're excited to be offering a very significant growth in our schedule this summer," said Mark Galardo, Air Canada's senior vice president of network planning and revenue management. "These changes will also grow and cement our position as the leading carrier of choice in the transborder market."

Travelers can see Canada's coronavirus restrictions by visiting the websites of the Canadian government or America's embassy in Canada.
