Canning was declared dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County Fire Department personnel and was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Baltimore for an autopsy.
Investigators say the crash occurred because Canning did not yield to vehicles while in the roadway outside of a crosswalk.

Neither speed nor alcohol appears to be involved on the part of the driver, police say, but alcohol does appear to have been a contributing factor for the pedestrian.
Any charges are pending review by the State’s Attorney.
