Arundel High Mourns Death of Math Teacher

Cathy Cundiff, a 30-year veteran of the county school system, died suddenly on April 8 after undergoing surgery. She was 61.

Students and staff at Arundel High School this week mourned the death of Catherine Mae Cundiff, a math teacher who spent more than 30 years with Anne Arundel County Public Schools. 

Cundiff died unexpectedly on April 8, one day after undergoing surgery. She was 61.

Known as Cathy to her colleagues, Cundiff taught at Arundel High for 11 years, after spending more than 20 years at Annapolis High.

"She was a dedicated teacher who loved math and cherished the chance to help students learn the subject," Arundel High Principal Sharon Stratton said in a letter to parents.

Cundiff was a resident of Millersville and is survived by her husband, John B. Cundiff, Jr., by her children Michael Cundiff and Emily Massey, and by granchildren Samantha and Madison Cundiff.

Cundiff enjoyed, gardening and flowers, reading, tutoring, sewing, quilting, crafts, cooking and doing puzzles, according to an obituary published by Singleton Funeral Home. 

A funeral service was held Wednesday at the Community Church of God in Gambrills.
