LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, MD — A daughter pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of her mother in Linthicum Heights, officials announced Tuesday.

Authorities identified the accused daughter as Kimberly Windsor and the mother as Carol Windsor.

Presiding judge Stacy McCormack will sentence the 47-year-old daughter on July 12, a press release said.

"This is truly heartbreaking,” Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said in the release. “The defendant viciously attacked her own mother because she wouldn’t go to the store for her and the subsequent assault contributed to the victim’s death."

The Anne Arundel County Police Department heard about the assault on May 19, 2020 at the Homewood Suites in the 1100 block of Winterson Road in Linthicum Heights, officials said.

The 911 caller was the victim's son. The caller reported that he was on the phone with his mother, Carol Windsor, when he heard a struggle between his mom and his sister, Kimberly Windsor. The son heard his sister yelling and objects being thrown, authorities said.

The victim's right hand was bleeding, and she was having trouble breathing when first responders arrived. The release also said she complained of chest pain and had atrial fibrillation, a disease that causes irregular heartbeats.

Officials said the mother told responding officers that her daughter:

  • Threw a clock at her head
  • Pulled her to the ground
  • Pulled her hair
  • Kicked her
  • Ran over her with a wheelchair
  • Tried to crush her, as the daughter weighed more than 300 pounds

Police officers said they tried to arrest the daughter, but she resisted. Authorities accused her of assaulting the officers and spitting on them as well as fire department personnel.

Medics took the victim to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie where doctors treated her for three broken ribs. The release said the mother died five days later on May 24, 2020.

The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled that the mother’s death was caused by the assault and the cardiovascular disease, officials said.

"It’s extremely sad," the state's attorney said. "I extend my deepest condolences to the victim’s son and all those impacted by the loss of Ms. Windsor.”

Assistant State’s Attorney Katherine Anthony prosecuted this case.
