Empty Severn Townhome Catches On Fire, Displaces Four People

A vacant townhome in Severn experienced a kitchen fire, which in turn caused smoke damage to the adjoining homes, displacing four occupants.

SEVERN, MD — A kitchen fire in a Severn home Wednesday caused three adults and one adolescent to be displaced. The fire broke out shortly after 3 p.m. on Sept. 25 at 1829 Meade Village Circle. It occurred in a two-story townhome in the middle of a cluster.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department, along with firefighters from three other departments, responded to the fire, which took approximately 30 minutes for them to contain. The agency received multiple 911 calls reporting smoke coming from the rear and a fire on the first floor of the townhome. The kitchen fire was contained to that room, but smoke damage occurred to the two adjoining homes.

The townhome that caught on fire was empty, but there was enough smoke damage to the neighboring buildings that the occupants were displaced. They are being assisted by the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit.
