Firefighters Injured, 15 Residents Displaced By Severn House Fire

Fire broke out in a row home in Severn Sept. 9, causing 15 residents to be displaced and two firefighters to be treated at a local hospital.

SEVERN, MD — A fire broke out in the early morning hours Monday in Severn's Meade Village causing 15 people to be displaced and injuring two firefighters. A two-story home at the end of a row, 1759 Meade Village Circle, had caught on fire Sept. 9 at approximately 1:54 a.m.

One of the residents in 1759 Meade Village Circle called 911 to report a fire that had broken out in the living room, which was quickly followed by calls for assistance from neighbors. The occupants in 1759 and 1757 heard the smoke alarms go off and they were able to escape the home without injury before the firefighters arrived. By the time firefighters were on the scene, the fire had spread to 1757 Meade Village Circle. The home at 1755 Meade Village Circle ended up sustaining smoke damage.

Firefighters from the Anne Arundel County fire department were assisted by two other fire departments for a total of 70 officers who took approximately an hour to get the fire under control. Two firefighters were transported in good condition to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with medical complaints associated with exertion from fighting the fire.

Six adults and nine children from the three affected homes have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit.
