Hockey Fundraiser Donates $190K To Pediatric Oncology

The 10th annual fundraiser has generated a total of $190,000 funneled through a Severn foundation to pediatric oncology at Johns Hopkins.

SEVERN, MD — The 10th annual Leap Towards A Cure hockey tournament and community festival held at the Gardens Ice House in Laurel generated $26,000 to be donated from the Andrea Henderson Memorial Fund to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University. That brings the 10-year total to approximately $190,000 raised. The funds will go specifically toward pediatric oncology.

This special event and fundraiser was launched in 2010 as a tribute to Andrea "Froggy" Henderson who passed away from breast cancer. She was an influential and beloved art teacher at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Md.

Donations are still being accepted and checks can be made out to the Andrea Henderson Memorial Fund, Inc, 7717 Riley Rd, Severn, MD 21144.
