Pedestrian Hit While Crawling In Street, Pronounced Dead In Severn: Police

Three cars hit a pedestrian who was crawling in a Severn roadway. Medics pronounced the 52-year-old man dead on the scene, police said.

SEVERN, MD — Three cars recently hit a pedestrian who was crawling on all fours in a Severn roadway, county police announced. A press release said medics pronounced the man dead on the scene.

Officers identified the victim as 52-year-old James Edward Hardy of Baltimore.

Authorities said they heard about the fatal crash in the 800 block of Reese Road around 8 p.m. Sunday.

A witness told police that the pedestrian walked in circles in the street before getting on his hands and knees to crawl in the eastbound travel lanes, the release said. The witness also reported that the man did not respond to somebody who asked what he was doing.

Officers said the victim was hit by a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport SUV, and then a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV, followed by a 1995 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. None of the drivers were hurt.

The man was wearing dark and non-reflective clothing, the Anne Arundel County Police Department said.
