Missing Man Found Armed In Apartments, Lockdown Ends: Police
Police found a "critical missing person" armed in an Odenton apartment. Police put the complex on lockdown for several hours.
ODENTON, MD — An apartment complex in Odenton went on lockdown for about 4 hours Tuesday while police investigated reports of an armed man in one of its buildings. Anne Arundel County Police blocked the entrance to the apartments, the Flats170 at Academy Yard on the 8300 block of Telegraph Road, around 10 a.m. They lifted the lockdown just before 2 p.m.
The situation started when Annapolis police told the county department that there may be a "critical missing person" at Flats170, an Anne Arundel County police spokesperson said. Police found the missing man in the apartment building with a weapon, spokesman Marc Limansky said.
Officers evacuated the residents in the affected building and asked everybody in the neighboring buildings to shelter in place. They blocked the flow of traffic into the complex while keeping Telegraph Road open.

Police started negotiations with the man inside. After almost six hours, the man surrendered his weapon and came outside around 1:40 p.m. Police took the man into custody. Nobody was hurt or injured. Police did not announce what type of weapon the man had.
"Thank God that's over," Limansky said.

Police are not releasing the man's name because of his status as a "critical missing person." They have not filed any charges against him.
After almost 6 hours of negotiations our Crisis Intervention Team and Negotiators were able to convince the subject to put down his weapon and come outside. The subject has been taken into custody with no injuries to civilians or officers. Thank you for your patience! https://t.co/gZrP10UrDE

"We are working closely with law officials to minimize the disruption to our residents; however, their presence may have caused concern," the apartment complex told its tenants in an email just after 10 a.m. "At this time, law officials have indicated to us that this was a private, isolated incident."
Christopher Williams, a resident of the building the man was in, said police escorted him out of the building at 10:30 a.m. Williams said police were "Nice, calm and collected."
At least 15 police cars blocked the entrance to the apartments. About 10 more parked a block away on Lamonte Avenue. A K-9 vehicle was on-site, as was at least one man in camouflage with semi-automatic weapon.
The Anne Arundel County Fire Department sent four units to the scene. A fire engine, an ambulance and two smaller fire vehicles parked on parked on Lamonte Avenue, with crews standing outside them.
Fire officials declined to comment. They left the area just before 2 p.m.
