Odenton Business Named Minority-Owned Business of the Year
Abi Elabanjo moved to Odenton in 2006 and wanted to offer better early childhood education. Now she's being rewarded for doing just that.

ODENTON, MD — An Odenton business owner is the most recent recipient of the Central Maryland Chamber of Commerce's Minority-Owned Business of the Year award. Abisoli "Abi" Elabanjo, owner of Kiddie Academy of Odenton, was recognized for her work.
The prestigious award honors a minority-owned business which demonstrated "a history of growth/profitability, increasing number of employees, or materially improving the business climate in the area," according to a press release. The Chamber of Commerce thinks Elabanjo has done just that.
"When Abi moved to Odenton with her family in 2006, she sought out childcare for her daughter, but was dissatisfied with all of the viable options in the area. After seeing firsthand the need for quality childcare, Abi set her sights on opening her own childcare business," the press release said.

Elabanjo saw her nephew's curriculum at a local Kiddie Academy, an educational childcare franchise that is nationally recognized. Ten years later, her dreams are realized, and she owns the Kiddie Academy of Odenton.
"The recognition by the Central Maryland Chamber of Commerce is encouraging to Abi, as it shows that her community appreciates the services that Kiddie Academy of Odenton provides for local families. Now, as the community and need for childcare continues to grow, Abi is already planning for the development of her second location," the press release says.
