Odenton Shooting Hospitalizes Bystander, Officers Catch Suspect: Police

An Odenton woman was hospitalized after a stray bullet hit her in her apartment, police said. Officers noted that they caught the suspect.

ODENTON, MD — Police announced that an Odenton woman was hospitalized Friday after a stray bullet hit her while she was sitting in her apartment. Officers said they have the suspect in custody. Authorities have not yet filed any charges or identified the accused person.

Officials expect the 23-year-old bystander to survive. Police gave the victim first aid until the Anne Arundel County Fire Department arrived and took her to an unnamed hospital for treatment of her injured extremity.

The shooting happened around 12:45 p.m. outside the Riverscape Apartments in the 700 block of Hammond Branch Road. Witnesses told officers they saw two people fighting, leading one of them to fire several shots from a long gun.

The suspect fled in an Audi sedan. Authorities reported that they stopped the car, detained the occupants and found a loaded AR-style rifle as well as a handgun in the vehicle.

Back on the scene, investigators spotted numerous shell casings and a parked Nissan Rogue with its front two windows shattered.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department is still investigating. Officials said they will give more information when it is available.
