One Killed, Four Seriously Hurt In Jessup Crash: State Police

A Washington, D.C., woman was killed and four other people were hurt early Saturday in a crash on Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

JESSUP, MD — A Washington, D.C., woman was killed and four other people were seriously hurt early Saturday when their car went off the Baltimore-Washington Parkway near Jessup and struck a tree. Maryland State Police say Keona J. Johnson 21, was thrown from the vehicle and onto the highway; she was pronounced dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County EMS personnel.

The crash happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. at southbound Route 295 and Route 175. A 2006 Mitsubishi driven by Sekaya D. Cogdell, 24, of Forestville, was southbound on the Baltimore Washington Parkway at Rt. 175, when it went off the highway and crashed. After striking a tree, the car came to rest on the road.

Cogell and three passengers were all taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with what emergency medical personnel described as serious, life-threatening injuries. The injured passengers are: Tyesha M. Jacob, 22, of Suitland; Tyrese M. Hicks, 26, of Washington, D.C.; and Amanda C. Burgess, 30, of Temple Hills.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is investigating the cause of the crash.

No charges have been filed at this time. Once the investigation is done, state police will consult with the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office about an charges.
