Severn ATV Driver Runs Down Officer: Police

A Severn man was arrested a month after he allegedly ran down an Anne Arundel County Police officer with his ATV.

SEVERN, MD — A Severn man faces multiple charges after police say he ran down an Anne Arundel County Police officer with his ATV, injuring a passenger and the officer in the crash.

Anne Arundel County Police officers were on patrol July 27 in the Still Meadows community of Severn, where residents had previously complained about illegal motorcycles and ATVs being driven on the streets, causing disturbances in the area.

An officer saw an ATV with a driver and rear passenger traveling near Still Meadows Drive and Jacobs Road. Officers attempted to stop the ATV, but he left the area. Another officer on foot in the area, saw the same ATV and motioned for the driver to stop.

The driver — later identified as Trenell Kyree Turner, 22, of the 7800 block of Chalice Road in Severn — allegedly turned his ATV toward the officer and struck him with the vehicle. Authorities say the patrolman was thrown into the air and was later treated and released from a local hospital.

Impact from the crash caused the ATV to roll over and eject both occupants. Turner fled the scene, while his passenger was taken to Shock Trauma with non-life threatening injuries.
