Teen Spots Burglar on Severn Back Porch

A Severn man is charged with stealing jewelry from a house; the homeowner arrived home in time to give police a tag number.

SEVERN, MD — A burglar who rifled through a Severn house had his getaway spoiled because a teenager and father were home, authorities say.

The suspect -- George William Houck, 37, from the 7900 block of Allard Court in Severn – reportedly entered the home before 3:30 p.m. Monday. Police say the burglary happened in the 7800 block of Walnut Grove Road in Severn.

Investigators say Houck entered the house through an unlocked, rear sliding door. Once inside, he removed several pieces of jewelry and two glass jars full of coins.

A teen who lives in the house spotted the thief on the back porch. The teen’s father arrived home about the same time, spotted the suspect’s Toyota Corolla in the driveway and saw the suspect on the back porch.

The homeowner gave police the tag number of the suspect vehicle and officers took Houck into custody at that address when he arrived. He was identified by the victims, police say.
