Third Teen Charged In Odenton Boy's Murder

Police said the drug-related shooting death of a 14-year-old Odenton boy has led to charges against three teens.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A Hyattsville teen has been charged in the death of a 14-year-old Odenton boy shot in Laurel last weekend. Xavier Young, 14, was killed in what police said was a drug-related shooting.

The announcement of the arrest marks the third teen charged with murder in connection with Young's death.

Police allege there was an altercation during a coordinated drug deal around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, when a group met in the 9000 block of North Laurel Road. During the meetup, one shot was fired from a car window, according to officials. Young was flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased on Monday, Oct. 30, according to police.

Melvin Jacome, 15, of the 6800 block of Ridge Road in Hyattsville, has been charged with first and second-degree murder and first-degree assault, police reported on Friday, Nov. 3. Police said Jacome was arrested Thursday, Nov. 2, in Prince George's County and was being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.

  • Luis Gerardo Ordonez, 19, of the 9200 block of Redbridge Court
  • Francisco J. Rodriguez, 16, of the 9000 block of North Laurel Road
