T.J. and Jennifer Hontz and their four children have been left searching for a new place to live after a fire damaged the townhouse they were renting in Hanover. Patch The family's oldest boy is scheduled to have heart surgery next month.

The big county-wide story last week was the news that Chief James A. Teare would retire Aug. 1, and that state prosecutors have dropped an investigation into his involvement with County Executive John R. Leopold, who will face trial in Sepember on charges relating to his use of the police department. Teare will be replaced by Maj. Pamela Davis, a 19-year veteran of the force.

This one got a lot of buzz from readers. Sen. Jim Rosapepe (D-District 21) wrote a letter to the public service commission urging for fines of up to $100 million against BGE and PEPCO relating to the power outages following the derecho storm. The money, according to Rosapepe, would to fund workers who would help address long-term outages.
