Man Killed, 4 Injured in Owings Mills Apartment Fire: Officials

The cause of the fire at Painters Mill Apartments was under investigation.

UPDATE (1:30 p.m.)—A fire at an Owings Mills apartment building Tuesday morning sent several people to the hospital, including one individual who died, according to Baltimore County public safety officials.

Firefighters found heavy fire on the second floor and several people trapped at Painters Mill Apartments in the unit block of Tricount Court at approximately 2 a.m., public safety officials reported.

One man was carried, unconscious, from the apartment to Northwest Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the report said. Police said he has not yet been identified.

A woman rescued from the same apartment was taken to the Johns Hopkins Burn Center with serious injuries, according to the report. Firefighters helped her walk away from the burning building, the report said.

Two additional people drove themselves to Northwest Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, officials said. A firefighter was also treated for minor injuries at the scene, authorities reported.

In all, approximately 60 firefighters responded to battle the “relatively small” fire, which was brought under control by 2:50 a.m., officials said.

The Baltimore County Police Department’s fire investigators were looking into the cause. Officials said it did not appear that there was any criminal activity involved.

(Previous report)—A fire in Owings Mills Tuesday morning sent several people to the hospital, according to Baltimore County public safety officials.

The blaze occurred in the unit block of Tricount Court, officials said in a report before 4 a.m. Tuesday.

The fire was upgraded to a second alarm, the report said, meaning additional personnel were required to help fight it after crews initially arrived on scene.

Four people were taken to the hospital and one firefighter was being evaluated for a minor injury in connection with the fire, according to the report.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available.
