Driver Dies In Crash On I-695 Shoulder: Police

A State Highway Administration worker was injured and a driver died in a crash on I-695 Wednesday night, police reported.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD - One person died and a State Highway Administration worker was injured in a crash on Interstate 695 Wednesday night, according to Maryland State Police. The collision occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. on the inner loop of I-695 before the exit for I-70.

Police said that a 2004 Ford Freestar had been in the right lane when it drifted over to the right shoulder and hit the back of a State Highway Administration (SHA) vehicle.

The driver of the Ford Freestar was taken to Northwest Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, according to police.

An SHA worker was hospitalized, treated and released, officials said Thursday morning.

The SHA truck had extensive rear-end damage, and the Ford Freestar had extensive front-end damage, police reported.

The identity of the deceased was not publicly released, and police said it was not known whether alcohol or drugs were factors. Officials said the crash remained under investigation Thursday morning.
