Har Sinai Congregation will launch the High Holy Day season Saturday, Sept. 8, with a free public Selichot event, including a light reception at 8:30 p.m. and screening of the challenging film, “Forgiving Dr. Mengele,” followed by a discussion about the importance and limits of forgiveness. Afterward at 10 p.m., a Selichot service will feature the Har Sinai Congregation choir. The event will take place at the synagogue at 2905 Walnut Ave. in Owings Mills.
Rabbi Benjamin Sharff will lead the film discussion and service. Selichot traditionally takes place the Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah and consists of a series of penitential Jewish prayers.
