Icy Roads Possible Overnight in Reisterstown

Several counties may be affected by dropping temps overnight, National Weather Service reports.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement Sunday night for several counties in central Maryland, including Baltimore, notifying travelers of possibly icy conditions.

“Please use extra caution if traveling tonight,” the National Weather Service advised at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

With temperatures dipping into the upper 20s and low 30s overnight, the weather service said untreated roads may freeze and ice over.

Reisterstown, Catonsville, Cockeysville, Dundalk and Parkton may be impacted in particular in Baltimore County, according to the National Weather Service.

Travelers in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Prince George’s counties were advised to be cautious of icy conditions on untreated sidewalks and roads and to reduce speeds.

The special weather statement Sunday night came after an unexpected bout of freezing rain hit the region Sunday morning, with multiple incidents reported including a fatal wreck in Harford County and a nearly 50-car crash in Howard County.

During the icy conditions Sunday morning, I-795 in Owings Mills was closed north of I-695, with ramps from the Baltimore beltway closed to I-795 north from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., according to WBAL.

Freezing conditions Sunday morning were not in the forecast from the National Weather Service until 8 a.m., while icy roads began affecting eastern Howard and much of Baltimore and Harford counties by 7:40 a.m., the State Highway Administration told The Baltimore Sun.
