Mill Station To Be Built At Owings Mills Mall Site

A new open-air development will be built where the Owings Mills Mall used to be, anchored by a large retailer.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — The old Owings Mills Mall site will be redeveloped, and it has a new name. Kimco Realty, which owns the property on Mill Run Circle, unveiled the concept for "Mill Station" on Tuesday.

The plan is for an open-air development that has about 30 shops. Anchoring the project will be Costco, which plans to construct a 148,000-square-foot store with a gas station, garden center, deli, bakery, food court, optical shop and photo center.

“What’s happening here today is no small feat," President of Kimco's Mid-Atlantic Region Tom Simmons said Tuesday as project leaders announced the vision for Mill Station. The 575,000-square-foot shopping center will include several dining options; green space; a mix of local, regional and national retailers; parking; and walkways that are pedestrian friendly.

"We are creating Mill Station to be, once again, the crossroads of social and cultural life for the Owings Mills community for many years to come," Simmons said.

The Owings Mills Mall on Mill Run Circle locked its doors in September 2015 and has since been demolished.

Simmons thanked the residents, businesses and county officials who helped inform the vision for Mill Station, a project that he said will be an "accessible, walkable and vibrant community destination.”

Construction will begin in early 2018 and the project should be complete by early 2019, according to Kimco.

“Mill Station completes the vision of a thriving Owings Mills town center,” County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said in a statement. "The $108 million open-air development adds to more than $1 billion of recent private investment in Owings Mills."
