Owings Mills Tree Farm Named Best Of 2017
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has recognized an Owings Mills farm for its contributions.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — An Owings Mills tree farm was recently recognized for its contributions to the environment. According to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the Showalter Tree Farm was named the 2017 Baltimore County Tree Farm of the Year.
"The Showalter family won this year’s county award in recognition of the dedication and commitment to timber production, wildlife habitat, soil conservation, water quality, and aesthetics they’ve demonstrated on their tree farm for close to 40 years," the Department of Natural Resources reported.
Since 1979, officials said that the Showalter family has been working with the Maryland Forest Service on sound management practices as part of the Maryland Tree Farm Program.

More than 1,100 tree farmers are registered members of the Maryland Tree Farm Program, which includes those who have more than 10 acres and have committed to a forest management plan.
