Police Shot Suspect In Randallstown Dollar Tree Theft: Officials

A police-involved shooting injured a theft suspect and an officer on Tuesday, the Baltimore County Police Department reported.

RANDALLSTOWN, MD — The suspect in a theft from the Dollar Tree was shot by police Tuesday afternoon on Liberty Road, officials said. The man was hospitalized, and his condition was not available, according to officials.

Before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, law enforcement responded to the Liberty Court shopping center in the 8600 block of Liberty Road, where a theft from Dollar Tree had been reported.

Responding officers saw the suspect walk across the parking lot, pull out at least one weapon and run into the Aldi store, police said.

Shoppers and employees in Aldi ran and hid, as the suspect was seen holding at least one weapon, according to authorities.

Inside the store, police said there was an altercation between the officers and the suspect.

At least one officer fired a service weapon at the suspect, who was subsequently hospitalized, police said.

There was also one officer who suffered minor injuries, officials reported.

Police said it was not immediately clear what the suspect's weapons were.

One witness told ABC 2 News that he appeared to have been armed with a machete.


PREVIOUS REPORT — There has been a police-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon in Randallstown, according to the Baltimore County Police Department. The status of the person shot and the officer were not immediately available.

Police said that the shooting occurred in the 8600 block of Liberty Road, near the intersection of Liberty Road at Old Court Road.

A police spokesperson was headed to the scene, officials reported before 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

The shooting happened near the Aldi supermarket in Liberty Court shopping center, according to WBAL Radio.
