Pub Held Up During Police Retirement Party: Report

A police retirement party took an unexpected turn, and now officers are reportedly under scrutiny.

WOODLAWN, MD - Police officers are under investigation after a party that took a strange turn this week. Two men reportedly tried to rob a restaurant where Baltimore County Police officers were congregating for a retirement party.

After the suspects held an employee at gunpoint in one part of Monaghan's Pub and then ran away, the victim alerted the officers in the next room, who chased after the alleged armed robbers, WBAL reported.

Two Gwynn Oak men were arrested in the incident, but the case did not end there.

Joseph C. McInnis III, 20, of the 5200 block of Norwood Avenue, and Tyree M. McCoy, 22, of the 3800 block of Cedar Drive, were charged in the Aug. 29 case with armed robbery; robbery; theft under $1,000; and first degree assault. Both were being held without bail, according to court records.

The three officers who pursued McInnis and McCoy are now reportedly under investigation for use of force.

One of the officers punched McInnis with a closed fist repeatedly after it appeared the man was reaching into his waistband to pull out a gun, according to The Baltimore Sun, which reported the weapon found on his alleged partner in crime was determined to be a pellet gun.

Police said that the department was conducting an administrative investigation, which is routine during any use of force, the Sun reported.

Both suspects appeared in their mug shots to have sustained facial injuries.

Because of its proximity to the police station, the owner of the pub told the Sun it was "odd you would even attempt" to rob the restaurant.

Monaghan's Pub is 0.2 mile from the Woodlawn precinct.
