Wegmans Prepares for Opening in Owings Mills
Take a look inside Wegmans, which is opening Sunday on Reisterstown Road; touches like more than 8,000 kosher items are in store.
OWINGS MILLS, MD — Employees are putting the finishing touches on Wegmans in Owings Mills, which is opening this Sunday off Reisterstown Road. It's the first major store to come online in Foundry Row, a new development that will also include Panera and DSW, among other businesses, when complete.
The Owings Mills store will be the second Wegmans in Baltimore County, where the first opened in Hunt Valley in 2005. The Rochester, NY-based company includes more than 90 stores since launching in 1916.
The 109,000-square-foot Owings Mills location comes equipped with 65,000 products, including 3,000 organic items, more than 600 produce selections and 300 cheeses.

Aware of the Jewish population in the area, officials said the Owings Mills Wegmans is carrying 8,000 kosher offerings. These products are marked with a blue label and are available in a specific section of the store. Vegetarian and gluten-free items also have special markings, as do locally sourced products.
On top of traditional a grocery store, Wegmans contains Asian, veggie, organic salad, olive and homestyle food bars; a bakery; floral shop; pharmacy; pizza shop; and cafe with indoor and outdoor seating.

Owings Mills is debuting a new concept for Wegmans: a burger/coffee bar. For the coffee aficionados, there is a cold-brewed option as well as a nitro tap. Burger lovers can choose from a variety of selections, from a maple onion burger with aged cheddar and onion jam to a turkey burger with herb goddess dressing to a lamb gyro burger with tzatziki. Vegetarians, rejoice — a black bean burger with chipotle aioli and a falafel burger topped with tahini dressing are on the menu too. Since people tend to drink coffee in the morning and eat burgers in the afternoon, company officials said a hybrid space made sense.
Wegmans will open at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 10100 Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills. Other than the grand opening (when the store opens at 7 a.m.), daily hours will be 6 a.m. to midnight.
