Parkville Driver Involved In Fatal I-695 Crash: Police

PARKVILLE, MD — Police said a Rosedale man died in a crash on Interstate 695 Thursday night as he was trying to remove debris from the road. A Parkville woman is believed to have hit him, and no charges are pending, officials reported Friday.

Brian Sedgwick, 44, of Rosedale, was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said. His body was found on the shoulder of I-695 near the exit for Harford Road, officials reported.

Police said that Sedgwick's dark gray Camry was parked on the right shoulder of I-695 near Perring Parkway and the exit lane for Harford Road. His doors were locked and the flashers were on, and his vehicle had no visible damage, according to police.

His body was found about 800 feet from his vehicle near the Harford Road exit, and authorities said they believe he was trying to take debris out of the road when he was hit.

The driver that hit him had been in the exit lane for Harford Road, police said, and she told authorities she was behind other vehicles that had been swerving around a large amount of wood and debris in the road.

"At the last second, she told police she hit something, subsequently disabling her vehicle at the top of the ramp where her vehicle came to rest," according to a statement from Maryland State Police.

Misti Donielle Sani Rookar Lake, 39, of Parkville, was not injured, police said. Officials said her black Chevrolet Equinox had significant damage when it was found on the outer loop of I-695 at Harford Road.

Officials said they not think impairment was a contributing circumstance in the crash, and there were no charges pending.

The two right lanes and right shoulder were closed during the investigation as authorities — including the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, crash investigators, fire and rescue officials and troopers — responded.

Initially, police were dispatched at 11:07 p.m. to investigate a body reported by the State Highway Administration that was on the inner loop of I-695 between Perring Parkway and Harford Road. Within minutes, troopers found the body and said the victim had broken legs, bodily disfigurement and head trauma that placed him beyond aid. Fire and rescue personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced Sedgwick deceased at 11:21 p.m., police said.

The road reopened at 3 a.m., according to state police, who said the investigation was ongoing.
