Where Are All the Overlea Football Fans?

There seems to be a deficit of cheering fans for Overlea High's undefeated varsity football team.

After a phenomenal 10-0 regular season, the Overlea Falcons played Reginald F. Lewis High School last week, where they pulled out a convincing 52-16 win, advancing to the regional finals.

Despite the awesome performance from the boys in orange both last week and throughout the season, the fans just don't seem to be there. For last week's home playoff game, it seemed like the Lewis Falcons had more bodies in the bleachers.

Still undefeated, takes on No. 3 Northwestern tonight at CCBC Essex to play for a chance to continue their postseason and play at M&T Bank Stadium downtown. The game starts at 7 p.m., but the question is, will you be there to make noise and support the boys?

Earlier this week, Overlea's expected opponent—New Town, defeated by Overlea in regular season play—was forced to forfeit the season, changing the Friday night contender to Northwestern.

"It's really the same thing for us; they have a second life and we have to go out and play four quarters," said Overlea coach Craig Rollins. "Any given Friday night, anyone could walk away the winner—we've got to play level and protect the ball."

Once the contest starts, look for senior Alex Wells to be a force on both sides of the ball—last week he had a total of four touchdowns, including an interception and a kickoff return. Quarterback Tevin Berry will likely be able to hook up with junior wideout De'Quan Pettway to make a difference offensively. On the defensive side, look for game-changing stops from junior Bailey Hoesch, and sophomores Austin Newcomb and John McCargo.
