Change In Perry Hall School Start Times Is Ahead

Honeygo Elementary, Joppa View Elementary, Pine Grove Middle, Parkville Middle and White Oak are among the affected schools.

PERRY HALL, MD — School start times will be modified in a handful of Baltimore County Public Schools as of fall 2018. The arrival and dismissal bells will shift at eight schools countywide, five of which are in the northeastern part of the county, officials said.

"The changes are slight in most cases," Interim Chief Academic Officer Dr. Mary McComas said, and will help "achieve more efficient school operations."

Here are the new start times for the five northeastern schools, according to Baltimore County Public Schools:

Five minutes were added to the end of the school day to increase instructional hours at all schools across the county, according to a statement from Baltimore County Public Schools, issued in May.

Starting in the fall 2018, officials said they will be tacking on five minutes to the end of the school day in all Baltimore County Public Schools. The move is a response to the Maryland State Department of Education, which granted the school system a waiver this school year for not having the required 1,170 hours of instructional time; Baltimore County Public Schools fell eight hours short.

The waiver was contingent upon the school system increasing the number of instructional hours the following school year.
