Councilman Marks Acts to Preserve 113 Acres Near White Marsh Boulevard

Baltimore County Councilman David Marks will recommend blocking development along 113 acres east of White Marsh Boulevard, one of the largest downzoning decisions announced as part of the 2016 rezoning cycle.

The property stretches along White Marsh and Walther Boulevards, with a section that extends north to the Orbitan Road area.

If adopted by the Baltimore County Council on August 30th, the change will protect most of the wooded property in the Belmont and Dunfield communities from development. The Neighborhood Commons zoning can be applied to public property, and much of the land is owned by entities such as the Maryland State Highway Administration.

“The best way to visualize this area is to look at the wooded property as you drive over White Mash Boulevard onto the Baltimore Beltway,” Councilman Marks commented.

Meg O'Hare, the president of the Carney Improvement Association, praised the move. "The Carney Improvement Association thanks Councilman Marks for his sponsorship of the Neighborhood Commons law and for applying it to so much land in our area."

Councilman Marks is reviewing the development potential of thousands of acres of land in an effort to lighten school overcrowding and preserve green space.
