Water Rescues, Road Closures Near Perry Hall And White Marsh

High water has been reported in the area of White Marsh Run and Route 1, and the National Weather Service issued a flood warning.

WHITE MARSH, MD — Flooded roads and water rescues accompanied the downpours that saturated Perry Hall and surrounding areas on Sunday. More than 10 inches of rain were reported in the southwestern part of Baltimore County in Catonsville, and nearby Ellicott City was declared in a state of emergency.

A flood warning was in effect in Baltimore County until 7:45 p.m. on Sunday. A flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.

Crews were dispatched at 4:55 p.m. to rescue someone on the Gunpowder Falls, according to authorities. Officials said three people were rescued, none of whom had obvious injuries.

Approximately 2 to 5 inches of rain had fallen in the White Marsh area as of 5:15 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Parking lots near Town Center Court flooded from White Marsh Run, a tributary of the Bird River and the Chesapeake Bay that has overcome its banks, weather officials said in a statement before 5:30 p.m.

Road closures and water rescues have also been reported, with high water on parts of Joppa and Belair roads.

"Please take these warnings seriously," the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company said Sunday, explaining that three people, including two children and one adult, had been rescued near Seven Courts Drive and East Joppa Road in Perry Hall.

Authorities anticipate more flooding of low-lying areas near streams and creeks in Baltimore, Middle River, Dundalk, Towson, Essex, Parkville, Carney, Perry Hall, Rosedale, Rossville, White Marsh, Kingsville, Joppatowne, Nottingham, Fullerton, Loch Raven Village and Gunpowder.

Those near low-lying areas should move to higher ground.

Drivers who encounter flooded roads should turn around — don't drown — officials advise.

Route 1/Belair Road was closed due to high water at Ridgeley's Choice in Nottingham, the Maryland State Highway officials reported before 2:45 p.m.

Joppa Road has also experienced flooding, and White Marsh Run was at flood stage, the National Weather Service reported via NOAA radio at 3:53 p.m.
