Light Turnout, Perry Hall Residents Talk Votes

Light voter turnout meant were largely line-free around Perry Hall on , election judges told Patch.

By 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, two polls inside had seen a total of just over 250 voters—in the school's cafeteria, precinct 11-12, 174 votes were cast, and in the school's library, precinct 11-18, 79 votes were cast. The proportion of Republican voters slightly outweighed Democrats, according to election judges.

"I've worked the polls for more than 25 years, and this is the lightest I've seen. I attribute that mostly to spring break and early voting," said .

Marks campaigned outside the high school on behalf of Republican , who is competing in the District 2 congressional race.

Perry Hall resident Lamuel Phillips, a Democrat, said his ballot offered few contested races. Still, he said, he wanted to show his support for unopposed incumbent President Barack Obama.

"He has a plan to straighten things out, and I think he's handled things pretty good," Phillips said.

Rita Jones of Perry Hall, a Republican, said her vote for the presidential nominee went to Mitt Romney, former Massachusetts governor.

"I like Santorum, too, but Romney seems to be the best man for the job. He has business experience. He even looks presidential, doesn't he?" Jones said.

Bill Howard of Perry Hall also arrived at the high school on Tuesday, but in support of a cause, not a candidate.

Howard was collecting names for petitions to get a referendum about Baltimore County's and a referendum about on the general election ballot.

"When it comes to moral issues, people feel more comfortable having a say in it," he said.
