North Carolina Man Charged with Rape, Kidnapping in Nottingham Girl's Disappearance

Victor Yanez Arroyo, 32, was charged in case of 12-year-old who went missing on her way to Perry Hall Middle School.

A 32-year-old North Carolina man was charged Monday with kidnapping and rape in connection with the disappearance of a Perry Hall Middle School student last week, according to reports.

Victor Yanez Arroyo, 32, of Raleigh, was being held on $1.5 million bond in Wake County, NC, according to WRAL, a news station out of Raleigh.

Police are continuing to look into how Arroyo met a 12-year-old Nottingham girl who disappeared while walking to Perry Hall Midle School last week, WJZ reported Monday. After several days of high-profile searches for the child, FBI agents found her in a Raleigh home Friday night, police said.

Her mother said that the girl may have met Arroyo while playing a game on Xbox, WRAL reported.

Arroyo had a previous charge for assaulting a woman from 2007 and had been deported from the U.S. and returned illegally,so federal agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement were also investigating him, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.

U.S. Border Patrol agents found Arroyo in 1999 and he returned to Mexico, Fox 45 reported.

Detectives said that clues from the girl’s iPod and Xbox played a crucial role in their ability to find her, according to Baltimore County police.

She was reunited with family on Saturday and welcomed home near Perry Hall.

Arroyo remains in jail with bail set at $1.5 million and a federal detainer in effect, according to Fox 45.
