Perry Hall High PTSA Preps for a New School Year
Meeting focuses on gaining new members and fundraising

Efforts at gaining new members dominated discussion at the Perry Hall High PTSA meeting, held on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
Just weeks into the new school year, current membership in the organization stood at 302 individuals. Joining the association costs $8 and must be renewed each year.
Membership coordinator Theresa Mouzon, 54, said she expects current involvement to quadruple by the spring, exceeding last year's count of roughly 1,200 parents, teachers and students.

"You don't have to come to every meeting," said Mouzon, whose daughter attends Perry Hall High School, "You just have to be informed. Joining is a great way to go about that."
Student liason and senior Rachel Lebowitz, 17, said she plans to make a special effort toward bringing more students, especially members of the Student Council, into the organization.

"It's important to get involved," she said, "because the PTSA sponsors a lot of events that impact the lives of students."
These events include a safe and supervised after-prom party, as well as a car show where students can show off their prized vehicles to the community.
Though all of its activites affect and include students, the PTSA is important to the community as a whole, said new president Judy Schlothauer, 50.
"Our goals stem from our students, to the broader picture of teachers and staff that are supported, which in turn leads to a better community, rich in activities," said Schlothauer. "Housing values increase in such a desired community."
