Focus On Positive At Perry Hall High School: Hairspray, Banners, New Crosswalks, Turf Field

After gun incident, the president of the Perry Hall High School Alumni Association applauds school and highlights uplifting news.

As you may or may not know, there was an issue at Perry Hall High School yesterday which happens to be my Alma Mater and my daughter's current school too. The PHHS Administration and the Police handled a situation quickly and thankfully without issue yesterday at the said high school during school hours, which reportedly involved a student having brought a gun into the school. The incident was apparently reported by at least one other Perry Hall High School student.

I wish to express my personal thanks as a parent of a student that was in the said school during the alleged incident to those involved in having settled the matter quickly, peacefully, and without incident. As the President of the Perry Hall High School Alumni Association Board, I feel that I can safely speak for our PHHS Alumni Board Members and the PHHS Community in applauding the brave effort of the PHHS student or students who swiftly reported the aforementioned incident. I also applaud the wonderful Administration and Staff of PHHS as well as our great Police Department in their efforts in consistently keeping Perry Hall High School and the surrounding Communities safe and informed.

Having stated the above, I feel it's extremely important at this time to stress that the past two gun related incidents over the past few years should not define the Gator Community because they are mere shadows behind what our school and community stands for which is Tradition, Pride, & Excellence. I love my Alma Mater and will always support this great school, which continues to show what wonderful things that the Students, Staff, Alumni, and Community can do. There are amazing things which are occurring this year alone at Perry Hall High School, the following are just a few. Simply drive in front of PHHS on Ebenezer Rd. or on Honeygo Blvd. and you'll see all of the Banners which were sold this year by the PHHS Alumni Association in order to raise much needed funds to help the high school with upgrades, supplies, etc. which BCPS can't help with. The PHHS Basketball Team's recent big win is a phenomenal positive story which has been discussed by the Media as of late. The PHHS Alumni Association has worked with County Councilman David Marks in the efforts to ensure Student and Community Pedestrian safety by Baltimore County adding two raised crosswalks in front of PHHS and one in front of PHMS which will be installed this year on Ebenezer Rd. Additionally, there's a large sign in front of PHHS which is advertising the fundraising efforts by the PHHS Athletics Boosters Club for a Turf Field at PHHS which will be similar to the new Turf Field at Towson High School. Please support the fundraising efforts of the PHHS Athletic Booster Club via the online link: http://www.phhsboosterclub.org...

Did you know that Perry Hall High School is the original school location of the 1988 John Waters' Hairspray Movie? It's true, I was a Freshman when the Hairspray Crew closed off a portion of the school in order to film during a couple of school days. I brought up the mentioned fact about the original Hairspray Movie because PHHS is celebrating John Waters' recent Writers Guild Award for his Lifetime Achievements by hosting a Hairspray Musical Production by the PHHS Theater Department this weekend. So we encourage everyone to show your support of PHHS by purchasing a ticket online at 0724.booktix.com or in person at the shows ticket booths. The Hairspray Musical's Dates and Times are: February 23rd - 25th @ 7pm and February 25th @ 2pm.

Again let's stay positive, and please support PHHS. Go Gators!
