His wife Samantha Houck said the death of her husband, her high school sweetheart at Perry Hall, was "devastating," leaving her "lost but mostly proud," according to The Tennesseean.
Growing up, they lived off Manorfield Road and attended Joppa View, Perry Hall Middle and Perry Hall High School, where he graduated in 2009, The Baltimore Sun reported.
Houck is one of six Maryland soldiers who died in the line of duty in the past 14 months who will be remembered in the Circle of the Immortals at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens. The cemetery's former owners began the annual ceremony because they thought that the public was losing sight of the meaning of Memorial Day
The Memorial Day ceremony will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 28, at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Circle of the Immortals, 200 East Padonia Road, Timonium, MD 21093.
