Perry Hall Water Tower Slated for $500K Repairs

The Perry Hall water tower and tank on Ebenezer Road, between the recreational fields of Perry Hall Elementary and Perry Hall Middle, is slated for major repairs this winter and spring. 

The Baltimore County Department of Public Works has ordered a water tank renewal project at a cost of $500,000 for the community landmark. It will include renovation of rafters and roof supports, and a new coat of paint, according to Mike Mazurek, chief of water design in Baltimore County. 

Despite a suggestion in the Perry Hall Community Plan, the words "Perry Hall" will not be painted on the water tower, Mazurek said.

The 1 million-gallon tank was constructed in 1970 and last repainted around 2010, he said. It will be fully out of service for the first time in over 40 years between December 2012 and May 2013. During that time, the community will depend entirely on the 2 million-gallon tank located behind Chapel Hill Elementary School.

Repairs should be complete by the summer, when water usage peaks. Residents will not experience any loss in water pressure during repairs, Mazurek said.
