Police Identify Fullerton Shooting Suspect

Baltimore County police said the victim and suspect in Tuesday's shooting knew one another.

FULLERTON, MD — A Nottingham man has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses related to the shooting near Fullerton Plaza Tuesday afternoon, which police said involved two acquaintances.

Spenser Naheshema Sumler, 23, of the unit block of Congaree Court, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery and using a firearm in a felony crime, court records show.

Police allege Sumler shot a man he knew while the two were arguing in the parking lot of the shopping center in the 7900 block of Belair Road.

The suspect walked in circles around the victim, who had emptied his pockets and pleaded with the shoote not to kill him, according to WBAL. The victim cried out for witnesses to call 911, which at least one man did as he followed the suspect, who changed clothes behind the shopping center.

When officers responded at 12:29 p.m. to a reported shooting, they said they found the victim shot in the lower body. He was taken from the parking lot between McDonald's and IHOP to an area hospital, police said. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

By 12:35 p.m., an officer from the White Marsh precinct had located the suspect on Rossville Boulevard, which authorities reported was briefly closed during a search for evidence.

Investigation revealed that Sumler and the victim were acquaintances and had been arguing.

Sumler was being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center, police said Wednesday.
