Official: Booms Around Perry Hall Caused By Aberdeen Proving Ground

UPDATE (9 a.m., Nov. 20)—An Aberdeen Proving Ground official confirmed that a series of boom sounds heard in the Perry Hall area on Monday were caused by testing at the facility. 

Lynn Witkowski, a public affairs specialist, called the testing "normal," but said it was unusual for it to carry all the way to Perry Hall. 

No further information on the type of testing was available as of Tuesday morning. 

UPDATE (4:30 p.m., Nov. 19)—A loud boom sound shook my house in the north part of Perry Hall late Monday morning. Did you feel it, too? Rumbling sounds seemed to continue into the afternoon. 

Baltimore County police and fire officials said nothing related to the sounds had been reported around Perry Hall. 

It may have been construction, but it may have also been related to Aberdeen Proving Ground testing. 

A media representative for APG was not immediately available for comment. However, the following noise advisory was released last week:

The U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center, U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command, located here plans to conduct several large detonations beginning on or about Nov. 14 and ending on or about Nov. 21. These detonations are likely to generate sound and/or vibration outside the installation boundary. If weather conditions are not favorable in minimizing noise off the installation, firing will be rescheduled.
