UPDATE: Perry Hall High Wins $5,000 Weis Markets Prize

The Facebook page posted the following announcement Monday afternoon: 

Congratulations to !! They are the Grand Prize winner of the Weis Markets & Frito Lay "Post Your Spirit" Contest. Mariel Mora-Elam submitted a photo of Perry Hall High School in Nottingham, MD and has won her school the $5,000 and digital camera Grand Prize.

The grocery store chain sponsored a $5,000 prize for the school represented by the photo with the most "likes" on its Facebook page before May 22. Out of seven finalists, Perry Hall finished with more than 200 "likes." 

To vote, participants first had to "like" the Weis Markets Facebook page. They then had to "like" the long horizontal photo of the Perry Hall girls junior varsity basketball team.

"When I entered the picture a couple of weeks ago I never thought it would get to this point," said Mariel Mora-Elam, whose daughter plays on the basketball team. "I was just a proud mom but now that I know we may actually have a chance, I feel like I have to win this for them."

Mora-Elam won a $200 Weis gift card as the original poster of the photo during the second week of the contest, but later focused her efforts on winning the grand prize for the school. 

"It just seems like with a simple click, the school can get something they never expected and that would be totally awesome!" she said.
