White Marsh Mall To Start Youth Curfew

Youths will have to be accompanied by an adult after 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at White Marsh Mall, starting this weekend.

WHITE MARSH, MD — The White Marsh Mall will implement a youth curfew policy starting this week. The Parental Guidance Required program is reportedly set to begin on Friday, March 8.

Announcements will play throughout the mall at 4 p.m on Friday letting shoppers know that officials will check ID at 5 p.m., and those under 18 years old who are not accompanied by a supervising adult will be required to leave, Fox 45 reported.

Those who accompany youths must be at least 21 years old and have ID, according to Fox 45, which said one adult may chaperone up to four youths.

White Marsh Mall General Manager Mary Williams told WJZ the youth curfew was a "necessary next step for our security protocol" that was introduced after "much evaluation and discussion with our partners at the Baltimore County Police Department and the county executive."

A large crowd at White Marsh Mall created a disturbance on Aug. 4, 2018, that led to nine arrests. Those detained included seven juveniles, and more than 36 officers were deployed to the incident.

The Baltimore County Council unanimously approved a resolution in November 2018 to encourage the mall to create a curfew.

Youth escort policies were implemented at The Avenue at White Marsh in 2005 and Towson Town Center in 2016 requiring those younger than 17 to be accompanied at all times by a parent or supervising adult age 21 or older on Friday and Saturday after 5 p.m.
