Cecil County Public Schools Changes Weather Decision For Feb. 12

Public school officials reevaluated conditions and changed their call for Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Cecil County.

CECIL COUNTY, MD — Public schools in Cecil County will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Cecil County Public Schools made the announcement Tuesday morning.

School offices will open for 12-month employees at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the announcement.

Officials cited inclement weather in making the decision to close Cecil County Public Schools.

Cecil County received several inches of snow on Monday, when schools were also closed.

Perryville got 4.5 inches of accumulation, based on preliminary reports to the National Weather Service.

There is a winter weather advisory in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday calling for an additional 2 inches of accumulation in Cecil County and a glaze of ice.

Cecil County joins Harford County in closing public schools Tuesday.



PREVIOUS REPORT (EXPIRED after 6:18 a.m. on Feb. 12): Public schools in Cecil County will open later than usual on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Officials made the announcement Monday night, after school was canceled Monday due to the weather; a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain fell countywide on Monday.

Because of the weather, schools will open two hours late on Tuesday, according to Cecil County Public Schools.

Prekindergarten and preschool will operate on the following modified schedule:

  • 11 a.m.–12:50 p.m. for the morning session
  • 1:50–3:30 p.m. for the afternoon session

There is a winter weather advisory in effect for Cecil County from 6 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Up to 2 inches of snow and 0.1 inch ice are expected, according to the National Weather Service.

Already, Cecil County has had several inches of snowfall. There were 4 inches of snow measured in Charlestown as of 2 p.m. on Monday, according to unofficial data submitted to the National Weather Service.
