Baltimore Co. Officer Injured In June Shooting Leaves Rehab

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Officer Paul Catalfamo, who was seriously injured in a June shooting, was released after two months of treatment and rehab late Wednesday.

The Baltimore County Police Department said the police force had met Catalfamo as he walked out of the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute in Baltimore.

Catalfamo had been with the bureau for nearly two years before the June shooting.

"Throughout his recovery, Officer Catalfamo has demonstrated tremendous resolve," reads a release by the department.

Catalfamo suffered critical injuries while responding to a June 7 call about a man exposing himself along the Milford Mill Gwynn Falls Trail in Pikesville.

At the time, Catalfamo and two other police officers engaged in a shootout with a 38-year-old Shaka Admed Sekuo Kamara Jr., who not only shot toward responding officers but also robbed a couple who were walking the trail.

Court records show Kamara remains held without bond on 20 charges that include three counts of first-degree attempted murder, armed robbery, and two counts of first-degree assault.

A hearing date in the case has not yet been listed.
