Debate Over New Baltimore Co. Sidewalks Grows: Report
New 5-foot-wide sidewalks are being considered for parts of Baltimore County following a Pikesville walkability study.
PIKESVILLE, MD — Plans for new sidewalks in a section of Baltimore County are underway, but not everyone is on board with the initiative, according to a report.
The county is currently in the process of designing 5-foot-wide sidewalks for a portion of Lightfoot Road in Pikesville.
The new sidewalk would be placed between Carla and Old Court roads, covering a stretch of roadway that measures out to be less than half a mile.

However, while county officials say the new project is being considered to improve walkability in the area, some residents say the sidewalk would create added stress for older residents in the community.
Dora Segan-Kohanim, who started an online petition against the move, told WMAR2 that maintaining the sidewalks would be "really hard" for older neighbors to maintain during inclement weather.
