Emergency Training at Northwest Hospital

Professionals from around the country came to Northwest Hospital to share their expertise about being prepared in case of bomb incidents.

As part of its commitment to be ready for any emergency, Northwest Hospital recently hosted a course in medical preparedness and response to bombing incidents. The goal of the workshop was to give first responders and hospital staff members the skills needed to provide a safe and effective response to bombing threats and incidents.

The course concentrated on teaching participants to be able to identify terrorist targets, understand explosives, identify pre-attack indicators, recognize bombing incident-related injury patterns and learn the best treatments of those injuries.

Members of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium, the New Mexico Tech and the Texas Engineering Extension Service came to Northwest Hospital to train participants. It was funded by the Department of Homeland Security.
