Negro Leagues Museum

A Must for Baseball Fans

Negro Leagues Museum

by Eddie Applefeld

If you're fan of major league baseball and have an interest in its history, then you'll want to pay a visit to the Hubert V. Simmons Museum of Negro Leagues Baseball in the Owings Mills Library. I had no idea of its existence until a friend asked if I had been there.

It opened the same day as the library, March 27, 2014. It is a testament to the days the Negro Leagues were playing ball across the country, including he Baltimore Elite Giants from 1920 to 1950. The team migrated from Nashville to Columbus to Washington and finally Baltimore. Hubert V. Simmons played for the Giants from 1950 to 1952.

The museum consists of three floors of baseball memorabilia, exhibits, photos and memories. Much credit goes to Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz who was instrumental in getting the museum at the library. The exact address is 10302 Grand Central Avenue.
