Associate Basketball Coach Leaving Churchill for St. Andrew's Head Coaching Position
Kevin Jones will be the head coach for St. Andrew's Episcopal School's boys basketball team.

’s boys basketball teams will be down one important team member after Associate Head Coach Kevin Jones announced this week he will be leaving his position to become the head coach for the boys basketball team at in Potomac.
Jones, who has coached at Churchill for three years, will meet the SAES boys team this week, which he will coach in the 2011-2012 season. The current SAES head coach, Scott Corkran -- who has been at the school for five years -- will become the middle school basketball coach and will teach at the middle school, said Director of Boys Athletics, Al Hightower.
“I’m hoping to bring the same discipline and structure to St. Andrew’s that we have here at Churchill,” Jones said. “We’re going to work to build from within, just like we did at Churchill and I think that, over time, the program will get more serious, more dedicated and will attract some good student athletes.”

Jones leaves the Bulldogs after the team achieved an 18-6 overall record this past season and won the 2011 MOCO 4A West Division Championship en route to an appearance in the MPSSAA 4A West Region Semifinals. Jones and Churchill’s Head Coach Matt Miller graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland together and have coached side by side at the school for the last three years.
The SAES Lions finished the past season with a record of 6-17, but Jones said he welcomes the challenge of enhancing their record. Jones is no stranger to coaching private school teams either, having previously coached basketball at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria and Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax.

Jones said it was tough telling the Churchill boys he would not be returning next season, but he was glad to help coach them through an excellent season.
“I’m leaving here with the program in good standing and we’ve accomplished lots of good things this year,” Jones said.
In the next few weeks Jones will begin strength and conditioning training with the SAES boys and continue to work with them through the summer.
“The school is recognized for its academic and athletic excellence and I’m looking forward to the challenge of transforming the basketball program at St. Andrew’s,” Jones said.
